Sleep apnea symptoms in women

Fatigue, insomnia, and headaches can be part of the picture.

Sources checked October 18, 2026

It may not start with loud snoring

Sleep apnea can involve breathing pauses or gasping, but women may report fatigue, headaches, or insomnia. These symptoms can have other causes too, so they deserve an assessment rather than a self-diagnosis.

What to discuss

  • Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.
  • Tiredness, headaches, or trouble concentrating during the day.
  • Snoring, gasping, or breathing pauses noticed by someone else.
  • How long the symptoms have lasted and how they affect daily life.

Ask about an evaluation

Tell your clinician about the full pattern, even if nobody has mentioned snoring. They can decide whether a sleep study or another assessment is appropriate.
