Dry mouth or a dry nose

Look at leaks, nasal congestion, and humidification together.

Notice what happens overnight

Dryness can accompany mouth leaks, a blocked nose, or insufficient humidification. The best next step depends on what is happening with your mask and breathing.

What to check

  • Check that your humidifier is assembled and filled according to your device guide.
  • Look for loose connections and a poor mask seal.
  • Note whether your nose feels blocked or you wake with your mouth open.
  • Review the patient comfort options for your device, or ask your care team to walk through them with you.

If it keeps happening

Tell your care team when dryness occurs and which mask you use. They can help identify the cause and decide whether fit, humidification, or a clinical review is needed.
